Not a typical rosé in any way, this is a moody, unctuous and assertive wine with a ton of complexity, and although a very versatile pairing for food, it will definitely surprise anyone looking for a stereotypical bright, fruity, pink bomb. It’s opulent, coppery and textured, but with surprisingly little weight, but definitely requires your attention to appreciate.

Aged 4.5 years, being racked 2x year and fined with fresh egg whites (!). Lopez de Heredia believes in withholding bottles until they are perfectly aged, so after barrel age the wine remained in their cellar by the Rio Ebre for several more years before release. What’s more, their last release was in 1995, and the next will be in 2017, so I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to try this now, as this bottle hit its 15 year mark.
